City of Buffalo Deploys Avrio Group’s Wireless Surveillance System
Easton, Maryland-January 4, 2008- Avrio Group, a leader in city-wide IP surveillance networks, announced today that their Rapid Deployment Surveillance Solution (RDSS) has been deployed in Buffalo to aid the Buffalo Police Department in their public safety efforts. RDSS is a software based solution that incorporates wired and wireless cameras and is capable of pushing video anywhere on a city’s network and real time to laptops in police cars. The solution also allows for integration with other security systems such as access control, gunshot detection and video intelligence. “We can read a license plate up to 300 yards away,” said Police Commissioner H. McCarthy Gipson at a Decmber 29 press conference. RDSS is part of Mayor Byron W. Brown’s two-year plan to install 100 surveillance cameras throughout the city. “This is going to be a tremendous deterrent to crime,” the mayor told reporters at a December 29 press conference. He added, “The clarity is amazing.”
The two main components of RDSS are the Rapid Deployment Polecam, (RDP) and the Rapid Deployment Trailer (RDT). The RDP is a single, portable unit housed in a weather tight enclosure that can be easily deployed and redeployed in a city as crime and surveillance needs dictate. The RDP, ideal for both permanent and temporary solutions, consists of a high-end IP camera, a Firetide wireless mesh radio and all the components necessary to hang and power the unit on a pole or building. The RDT, mainly used for events and temporary deployment consists of a high-end camera, a Firetide wireless mesh radio, solar panels, and battery backup.
